Top 10 TV Shows That Are Surprisingly Expensive

4 Marco Polo

Marco Polo was a promising show when it first debuted on Netflix in 2014. But it didn’t last. The series followed the life of the title character in his early years as a Mongol Emperor. It was an intriguing show that Netflix could add to its portfolio, but it ended up costing them a lot of money.

Netflix lost $200 million by the time the show ended in 2016. Each episode was worth upwards of $9 million. Comcast has a positive overall audience score of 94% according to Rotten Tomatoes.

3 Rome

Rome lasted only two seasons but left an impression on viewers across the pond in Britain and the United States. The Italian historical drama was broadcast on HBO and BBC Two. It made everything look authentic. Each episode cost more than $9 million to produce.

The show was co-produced by BBC and AT&T’s HBO. It cost $110 million to produce the first 12 episodes. The series was great because of the huge budget, but it ended up sealing its fate. It was too costly to continue the series and it was abruptly ended halfway through the second season.
