Walking it off
The problem was that there was a lack of public transportation in his area. Add the fact that he did not have any money on him. Walter felt like he had no other option but to walk all the way to his new job so that he could get there in time.
It was quite a distance but Walter believed that he could cover it. After all, he was a long-distance runner when he was in high school. In fact, he almost joined the US Marines when he graduated from high school so he knew he was physically capable.
A long walk ahead
Walter pulled out his phone to check how far it was to get to his new job from his home. He saw that the distance was 20 miles. It said it would take 8 hours for a person to walk there. It was farther than he expected but he thinks that he could beat the time frame.
Walter was supposed to be at his new job at eight in the morning so this meant that if he was to walk, he had to leave by midnight. He ate some eggs and made sure he slept early so he would be energized. He set his alarm for midnight.
