Early Life

Jeffrey Todd Garlin was conceived in Chicago, Illinois on the 5th of June 1962. Garlin is Gene and Carole Garlin’s son. He was born in Morton Grove in Illinois to a father who owned a family plumbing business called Bilko, and whose mother was involved in community theater.

He is my younger brother of Michael. Garlin is Jewish, and he attended Hebrew school.

Career

Garlin, then 22, moved to Chicago in 1984 to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. He was a member of The Second City, a comedy group. He was a box office worker for Stephen Colbert.

Garlin and Conan O’Brien were briefly roommates in Wrigleyville at the end of the 1980s. O’Brien is still close to him, and Garlin declared that he would no longer be a guest on The Tonight Show after O’Brien was removed from the role of host in 2010 in order for Jay Leno to return.

Garlin starred in The Rocker in 2008 as Stan. He also played Ed Lawson on Strange Wilderness in 2008. As Buttercup, he contributed his voice to Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 & 4.

He was the voice actor for WALL-E (an animated Pixar film that was released on June 27, 2008 as Captain of the Axiom Spaceship). Garlin was the executive producer of Finding Vivian Maier.
