We May Finally Know the Answer to What Really Happened to Amelia Earhart

The first attempt

Earhart had spent more than a year plotting her flight around the world. By 1937, she was ready to fly and go on her adventure around the world. During this important journey, she will be flying beside navigator Fred Noonan.

Earhart’s first attempt was in March 1937. Unfortunately, this was unsuccessful because her plane ended up crash-landing while taking off in Hawaii. She found ways to get additional funding to fix her plane, a Lockheed Electra 10E.

Taking off

It took a few months to get her plane fixed. By May 1937, Earhart and Noonan were able to take off from Oakland. They decided to fly in the opposite direction of their route this time because of changes in global wind and weather patterns.

By the end of June, Earhart flew and made stops in South America, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. But the hardest part of their journey was still to come – and this was the part where they had to fly across the Pacific Ocean.
