2 The Wizard of Oz: Dorothy’s Dress
Although her life was tragic, Judy Garland brought joy to many movie fans. She wore this blue gingham gown as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz, her first major role. Garland didn’t know that this movie would be loved for many decades after its release.
Although Dorothy’s original dress has been reproduced many times, it has always been a source of fascination. It was soiled and in poor condition, but it sold at an auction in New York for $1.5million in 2015. The news was widely shared on social media sites such as Facebook, it is not surprising.
1 My Fair Lady: “Ascot” Dress
Audrey Hepburn was one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Hepburn had many memorable roles in hits throughout her life. Her role as Eliza Dolittle, in 1965’s My Fair Lady was the most notable.
Eliza’s Ascot attire was enough to attract attention. Profiles in History auctioned the stunning ensemble back in 2011. Amazingly, the winning offer was $4.5million. It’s a staggering amount that you won’t find on websites like eBay.
