Double Checking
Tim hadn’t paid much attention to the child’s clothing, but as soon as he heard the description, he was confident that the child with the young man was wearing the same outfit, but he had to be specific.
The bus driver couldn’t just stop the bus and look back, as he knew it would alarm the young man and cause the situation to get out of control. So, he came up with an idea. First, Tim pulled off the freeway and parked the bus in a VTA space on Mission Blvd. Then, he announced to his passengers that a previous rider had left behind a green backpack.

“It was just something I came up with in a hot second,” Tim said. This lie allowed him to stop and “check” the bus. But instead, he kindly asked all the passengers to check under their seats for the backpack.
And as Tim went through the bus to double-check everything, he got a clear look at the little boy. Astonishingly, the boy was wearing the same outfit described in the message alert — including a pair of unmistakable red Crocs.
