Abdicating The Throne
Because Queen Elizabeth has stayed on the throne for 70 years now, Prince Charles who is supposed to take on the throne after her, has also aged in that span of time. But in that sense, it’s not the first time that a royal has turned down the throne.
But the reasoning behind is not for any political reason, but because of love. King Edward VIII was forbidden to marry a twice-divorced American and at the same time remain on the throne. His love for his woman was greater than his desire to rule, so he gave up the throne in a heartbeat.
Anti-Divorce Monarchy
This topic is not a secret. The monarchy forbids royals from marrying divorced partners regardless of their nationality. While it may be that the throne acknowledges a royal marrying for love, divorce will always be the exception.
The Queen does not just hold the title as of England’s ruler but she is also the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. But even though back in 2002 that the monarchy has started to embrace marrying divorcees, it is still up for debate for royals who are next in line to the throne.
