A Look At Ethiopians: How Do They Survive Living At The Edge Of A Volcano?

Yabelo: Small And Interesting Town

Yabelo is a town in southern Ethiopia, in the Borena Zone, which shares a border with Kenya. Despite the fact that many people have never heard of the town, it is a fully functional community.

Yabelo is equipped with at least two schools, a bank, a post office, and a number of petrol stations. It is the administrative center of the region and also has a population of just around 18,500 people (as of 2005).

El Sod: Smaller Village In The South

However, if you travel south of Yabelo for around 90 minutes, you’ll come upon an even smaller village known as El Sod. More than its modest population and secluded setting, this village is well-known.

The fact that it rests on the rim of an extinct volcano adds to its appeal. The crater has a diameter of slightly over a mile, but it is what lies inside the crater that is vital to the locals.
