Early Life
Judith Susan Scheindlin, “Judge Judy”, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on the 21st October 1942. Judy was raised in a Jewish family with Ukrainian, Russian, and German heritage. Her parents were both German Jews.
Scheindlin graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, majoring in Government. She graduated from New York Law School in 1965 with a Juris Doctor degree.
Career
Judith Sheindlin started her career in 1965 when she was hired by a cosmetic company as a corporate lawyer. She then began to practice. Sheindlin quit her job as a corporate lawyer after two years. In 1972, she returned to law and was appointed as a judge in a family court.
After several years, New York Mayor Edward Koch appointed her as a Bronx criminal court judge for the Bronx branch family court in 1982.
Judge Judith possessed the ability to draw the attention and respect of common people in 1986 through her no-nonsense attitude. A few years later, Judge Judy was profiled in a Los Angeles Times article, which hailed her as a legal superwoman.
She was featured on the TV news magazine ’60 Minutes’ because of all the attention she received.
